What began in Richard Wolter's basement workshop in 1984 is still a family business today, led by his son Glenn and still building just down the road in Evansville, Illinois.
In the early 1970’s, Richard Wolter spent his days in the local factory, his evenings and weekends in his basement, building cabinetry for family and friends. It wasn’t long before he realized he had more interest in his cabinets than a part-time job could fulfill. In 1984, he started Wolter’s Custom Cabinets as a full-time business.
Quickly outgrowing his basement, Rich built a small finishing shop behind his home. Before long, it too, did not provide enough room for his growing business. With great anticipation, ground was broken for a full-scale cabinet shop to be built. As his kids slept above the midnight hammering, the new shop would provide him the opportunity to separate his business and home. Large shed, concrete flooring—the kids had a great new roller-skating rink. After kicking the kids out, he now had space for cabinet building from raw wood to finished product.
A longtime customer held on to these snapshots of Rich and his crew installing their kitchen in the early days. The same oak cabinets you see behind the photos are still in use today.

In 2011, Wolter’s Custom Cabinets officially entered into its second generation of ownership when Rich’s son Glenn took over the business to continue what his father started. Relocating the shop to the latest addition provides Glenn the opportunity to create a more efficient flow of production, detailed with the latest technology.
Today, Glenn leads the business and oversees every project our team takes on. He is a phenomenal leader, always working to make our team better and every job the best it can be. Our team is happy to meet to discuss your cabinetry needs without any commitment or obligation.

“From start to finish they were professional, responsive, creative and quality. Everyone was great and no one stops until everything is perfect. Highly recommend.”
